Built on the former Runnymede Centre site, Chertsey High School offers first-class facilities for its 900 pupils, aged 11-16 years old. The school has been carefully designed to inspire creativity and comprises 41 classrooms, as well as a multi-use games area, external amphitheatre, dance studio, sports hall, main hall and dining hall, covering an area of 72,333ft2.

For this project, main contractor Kier specified 10 units of Ambar Kelly’s innovative RiserSafe® to prevent the risk of falls from height through the riser shaft during construction. With the safety of its team and the various subcontractors of paramount importance to Kier, the adoption of Ambar Kelly’s bespoke, prefabricated solution meant every floor opening at every level of the building was sealed, ensuring operatives could execute all work at height safely.

As well as enabling work from height to be conveyed in perfect security, RiserSafe® provides horizontal fire protection, preventing the spread of smoke and flame in the event of fire during construction. Such is its sophistication, RiserSafe® has been tested for 90 minutes at the British Research Establishment (BRE) with a temperature of 1000oC underneath without failure to its integrity. When used in conjunction with a fire-stopping compound, RiserSafe® has been tested to demonstrate fire stopping protection of over 120 minutes, passing integrity and insulation requirements.

RiserSafe® is also ideal for both steel and concrete structure frames, and its units can be tailored bespoke in order to coordinate with a project’s entire M&E services; making for a swift construction process which saves on both cost and time.

Completed to the client’s, Education Skills Funding Agency, exacting standards, Chertsey High School is now a focal point of the Runnymede community. Ambar Kelly is proud to have been part of a project which widens the education options in the area and reflects the aspirations and requirements of staff, students, and the inhabitants of the surrounding neighbourhood.
